“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23
Some know that sin is doing what is not right, but what does God say about sin?
It is rebellion against God
God has a right to tell you what to do and what not to do, just as He told Adam and Eve. If you do what God says you should not do, it is sin. If you refuse or forget to do what God tells you to do, that is sin.
Now, concerning Adam, he was told not to eat any fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He was warned that the very day he broke this command he would die. Adam knew what the results would be but they (especially Eve) doubted God’s goodness. They knew the difference between good and evil the moment God said to them, “You shall not.” Now they knew evil because they themselves had done evil. God knows in His mind the difference between good and evil, but He does not know evil by doing it, because everything He does is good.
Anyway let’s recap, and show you scriptures that helpful on the topic;
- If you do what God says you should not do, it is sin.
- If you refuse or forget to do what God tells you to do, that is sin. Sin is lawlessness, 1 John 3:4.
- If you do not know God’s law, you sin if you break it, and
- If you know to do good and do not do it, this is also sin, James 4:17.
To think of foolishness is sin, Proverbs 24:9, and whatever is not of faith is sin, Romans 14:23.

Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5
