What I would, that do I not

Romans Chapter 7

“O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord…” Romans 7:24-25

Paul said it seems to be the fact that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. What really is the problem?

To help you understand this, 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Doing what is right is itself a spiritual warfare, and you anticipative for  doing it, a mere ordinary weak human being.

How’s it possible that you can pull down strong holds with your barehands? You’ll need God’s mighty weapons, not those made by men, to knock down the devil’s strongholds.
Sin is also a stronghold and a great manipulator. It’s so good at imagining, influencing and exalting itself against all that you may know about God. Remember, it did that with the law.

The motions of sin works in our members so that sin can bring us disastrous fruits and death, Romans 7:5.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence...” Romans 7:8

“The serpent was the craftiest of all the creatures the Lord God had made. So the serpent came to the woman. “Really?” he asked. “None of the fruit in the garden? God says you mustn’t eat any of it?” “Of course we may eat it,” the woman told him. “It’s only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not to eat. God says we mustn’t eat it or even touch it, or we will die.” “That’s a lie!” the serpent hissed. “You’ll not die! God knows very well that the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened-you will be able to distinguish good from evil!” Genesis 3:1-5

Sin deceives

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.” Romans 7:11

Sin when revived, it leads to death, Romans 7:9

“…But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.” Romans 7:13

Romans 7:15-23
[15] For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. [16] If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. [17] But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. [18] For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. [19] For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. [20] Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. [21] I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. [22] For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. [23] But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord; for if you receive him, you bear fruit to God.
