Today I’ve begotten you

Today I’ve begotten you

God has a Son,

“whom he hath appointed heir of all things, and by whom also he made the worlds.” Hebrews 1:2

His name is “Son of God” a title he inherited which is far greater than the names and titles of the angels.

“This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12

Here is how he inherited that name; God said, “Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son. And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.” ( ref. Hebrews 1:4-6).

God’s Son is also God

“But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” Hebrews 1:8

  • all that God’s Son is and does marks him as God, and because he’s God his Kingdom, (O God,) will last forever and ever
  • he shines out with God’s glory,
  • angels of God worship him
  • God the Father, “in these last days speaks to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, vs 2

Relationship between Father and Son

God calls him Son, (vs 5,) God, (vs 8) and Lord, (vs 10), and Jesus relates with him as Father and God. He is “…the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3

In John 14:9-11 He says

[9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then , Shew us the Father? [10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. [11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Angels

“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:14

  • God speaks of his angels as messengers, servants and ministering spirits.

Jesus Christ is better…

Always remember, is “made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” Hebrews 1:4
