Why don’t your disciples follow our age-old customs?

It’s because that kind of worship is an empty show, meaningless and a farce; it is such as would ignore God’s specific teachings, substituting it with our own traditions. “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” Mark 7:9

Paul asked, “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.” Colossians 2:20-23

We don’t follow age-old customs because they satisfy the flesh, minding after the things we’re dead with Christ from, i.e. the rudiments of the world, the ordinances which are after the commandments and doctrines of men. Mark 7:7 says, “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Teaching for doctrines the commandments of men, this simply assaying giving our traditions equal weight with the Scriptures – it’s vain or has no likelihood of fulfilment. “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2). It attributes to nothing. Mark 7:7 says, “THEY WORSHIP ME IN VAIN” whoever does it.

The other point why disciples do not walk according to the tradition of the elders is also mentioned in Mark 7:6, Jesus said, “Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” Hypocrisy is all to do with play-acting, period. It is the act of claiming to believe something but acting in a different manner. All that we do should be consistent with what we believe and who we are in Christ that our worship may not be meaningless and worthless.

Why don’t your disciples follow our age-old customs? Because we don’t claim to be something we’re not. Play acting or pretence is not our thing because we’ve no reward for it.

Following traditions was and is still burdensome but now always remember, his yoke is easy!

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
