The way of the Lord

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.” Mark 1:1-2

It is important to get the facts right straight from the beginning. I’ve written this so that you may acquaint yourself with how it all began concerning the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Make his paths straight – know what he came both to do and to serve, more also – know how he works. Acts 1:1 says, “The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach.”

Four  things that are key to the way of the Lord here; the Holy Ghost, the Gospel of the kingdom of God, Followership  and Doctrine.

1. The Holy Ghost

John said, “I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.” (Mark 1:8), not many days hence. Every child of God should seek to know the way of the spirit, first before you can even do the work of God. Relate with him the same way you would with a friend – getting to know him and what he serve in your life.

2. The gospel of the kingdom of God.

And straightway,  after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15

He came preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God just at the nick of time or when you needed it most but for it to be effective or fulfilled in your life you got to respond to it positively, and in the following way; change, obey and trust.

  • repent ye /change
  • believe the gospel/ trust
  • come after me/obey

I will make you to become fishers of men

3. Followership

“And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.” Mark 1:17-18

  • straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

This is how you answer to the calling of God; straightaway, you forsake all and follow after him.

“…and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.” Mark 1:21

4. His doctrine:

  • he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. Mark 1:22
  • he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils, Mark 1:34
  • he went out, into a solitary place, and there prayed. Mark 1:35

The most important aspect of the gospel of Christ was his doctrine; he taught not as the scribes. The difference was they owned theirs but Jesus’ was sound doctrine for it was attributed to the kingdom of God. Job said, “I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.” Job 36:3

Hopefully this was helpful, and I trust you’ve also read Mark 1. We’ll add more flesh as we read further.

God bless,
