“But I trusted in thee, O Lord : I said, Thou art my God” (Psalm 31:14).
Don’t rely upon the flesh, if you do, your life will soon wither away. You will be desolate and hopeless. Such was the condition of Israel when they’d drifted away from God’s presence, and the condition of all humanity apart from divine grace.
Israel’s problem was she claimed to hope in God, yet she was resorting to her own devices;
- She trusted in false prophets.
- She sought help from foreign alliances, and
- She forgot God’s great deeds, despised God’s gracious promises, and ignored his threats.
Does it sound familiar to you?
My word of advice for you is don’t trust yourself or your own judgement. Don’t even entrust your spiritual life to frail men – false religion or self righteousness. On money, education, or worldly wisdom, and never on Church or christian leaders. Trust in God and you will be blessed.
“He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” Mark 7:6
You may think that you are trusting in God when really you are not, but you can already see from the verse above that God knows your heart, He tests your motives, and that of our spiritual leaders too.
The church itself has become reliant upon worldly methods (management, marketing, psychology); denying the sufficiency of Scripture. Church leaders these days are they who themselves rely on money, education, skills, wisdom more than they do on God. Who are their friends? Are they not politicians, government leaders, or military men? Yet the bible says, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:4-7).
According to this verse above, who are the true adulterers and adulteresses then? The church itself and our spiritual leaders too. For if you trust in anything else is nothing less than idolatry (spiritual adultery).
The writer of the book of Hebrews said, “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus….Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised” (Hebrews 10:19,22-23). But Jesus realised what should be the biggest problem with church today, He said, “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition” (Mark 7:7-9). We’re inclined to trust men, in the princes of this world while for show we claim to hope in God, but in our hearts we reject His ways.
John 13:10-11 says, “Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.”
