Self fulfilling prophecies

This is a broad subject, however we read in Acts chapter 5 that the Council decides to kill the disciples for preaching to the people. But then one of their members, a Pharisee named Gamaliel (an expert on religious law and very popular with the people), advised his colleagues to leave the disciples alone.

Listen to what he said;

Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great. About four hundred others joined him, but he was killed, and his followers were harmlessly dispersed.” Acts 5:36

He said, “so my advice is, leave these men alone,” pardon my paraphrasing, lest a “self fulfilling prophecy” is fulfilled.

A self fulfilling prophecy is a construction of reality that an individual can fulfil or cause to happen himself, and not that God has influence it. If a habit, belief or idea that is repeated frequently, (doesn’t have to be true though) it can be cast into a pattern which we all can accept. Any prophecy or prediction, true or false can also become true, if acted upon.

What do you need to do to fulfil it?

1 Timothy 1:18-20 says, “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.”

It’s so easy to fulfil prophecy either way you want it, good or bad, “…Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck…”

It is no surprise how even false prophets directly or indirectly influences own self-fulfilling Prophesies, and when they come true then cite the actual course of events as proof that they were right from the very beginning. Anyway, some religions were created upon this backdrop also. We do not only construct our own lives, but sometimes we accept it as it is because others have created it before us. We inherited this faith, “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:5-6

Even out there society itself is a habit.

Your status – who you’re, and the role you play, and your behaviour, or performance is a result of what you keep doing. See yourself as an actor on a stage, be eventful because you’re who other people should see – salt and light of the world. But whatever you do you inherited, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” (1 Peter 1:23). As you play you should imagine how you must appear to others too. Your sense of self is based upon this idea that you imagine how you should look to others, and draw the conclusion based upon their reactions on you – then develop your personal sense of self, incorruptible.

Believers should also understand the counsel of God’s own will: that “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” Romans 8:30

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Ephesians 1:4-6

Paul said, “Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” Acts 27:25

Bible verse of the day

Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
