What is man, that thou art mindful of him?

Understanding Spiritual Warfare – Psalm 8

“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” Psalm 8:3-4

Straightforward talking; God cares for you so much – he knows you by name and he pays attention to your whole being and needs. He has no favouritism. “If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?” Luke 12:28

You don’t have to be a spiritual giant inorder for God to be your defence. Small, little or useless as you think you’re, he’ll take care and love you the same. To be like little children is also what God expects of you. “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18). Actually David here says, “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.” (Psalm 8:2).

Knowing your shortcomings, He still loves you, I repeat, just as you’re; he made you a little lower than the angels, i.e., with blemishes, so that he can cleanse you, was you, save you, exalt you, and crown you with glory and honour. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…” Remember, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James 4:6).

Psalm 8:6-8 says,

“Thou madest him [man] to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: [7] All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; [8] The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.”

God has put you in charge of everything he has made; everything is put under your authority, and the devil and his little demons is no exception – they’re all under you feet in Jesus name. “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Romans 8:37

So what?

In Luke 10:18-20, “…he [Jesus] said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

Anyway, what is man, that thou art mindful of him? It’s a question many people may ask today, “What does God want from me? What God wants is really quite simple: He wants you. He wants you to “be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29). He brings situations in your life to refine you so that you become who He has designed you to be. First Peter 1:14–15 says, “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.”

God wants you to trust in His Son as Saviour and Lord of your life (Philippians 2:9–11). He wants you to know Him through Jesus.

Bible verse of the day

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
