“We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.” Psalm 44:1
What David is trying to say is God you favoured them.
Now hear this; only God can give you victory over your own worries, doubts and fears. Sometimes I see people wasting their precious time trying to be like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and you name it. But hear me loud and clear today, these men and women of faith did not conquer by their own strength and skill, God commanded deliverances for them, he smiled at them and favored them. David said, “Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us” (Psalm 44:5). My pastor used to say, to know wisdom is to know God, and to know God is to know wisdom.
I pray today that when God sets his eyes upon you, He also should smile at you and favour you too. I say so because there are some like Judas Iscariot who at the end God will instead sell them for nothing; he will cast them off, put them to shame and make them to turn their backs from their enemies. “Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people. My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant” (Psalm 44:13-17). Pathetic, the way Saul ended.
David said, “All this is come upon us;” despite our knowledge of him or commitment. Jesus did not only grow in wisdom and stature, but he also increased “in favour with God…” (Luke 2:52). Realise, favour is also the benefit of salvation.
It is favour that makes you obtain; “How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.” Psalm 44:2-4
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Anyway, it’s Friday, enjoy your weekend.
