“I waited patiently for the Lord ; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it , and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3
Let your ears be opened today, listen to this more attentively. David said in verse 6, “mine ears hast thou opened:” and in verse 1 he said, “I waited patiently for the Lord.”
Patience is persevering towards a goal; it is enduring trials, expectantly waiting for a dream or promise to be fulfilled.
Patience is a fruit of the spirit, meaning you can’t dodge anything of the spirit, and if a fruit then it should be developed over a long period of time. I’m not downplaying miracles but I as a believer waiting for a manifestation of the children God, I would like you also to not to be slothful, but that you be “followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:12). And again I say wait. David said, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” We know that that didn’t happen overnight as some may assume. We see also in the Bible many other believers whose patience characterized their walk with God; man like Abraham, Moses, Job and “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust and Psalm 40:8 says, “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” We have the Lord’s strength to respond with patience and in complete trust in the Father’s power and purpose. “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life” (Romans 2:7).
Listen to this, “Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.” Psalm 40:16-17
Are you poor and needy? Whatever is your situation, wait patiently on the Lord. When you wait patiently for the Lord; He will incline unto you, and hear your cry. He’ll bring you up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set your feet upon a rock, and establish your goings. And he also shall put a new song in your mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord because of you.
