“I sought the Lord , and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
First let me jot down a list of what was David’s own fears in this psalm, it was the fear of facing a painful humiliation, of troubles or inconveniences, of being abandoned by God, suffering shame, of hunger, lack or being needy, of evil, premature death, desolation or being broken hearted.
‘This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” Psalm 34:6
The most common of our fears maybe is
- To suffer from terminal illness
- To get old, and risk not being attractive
- To fail in love
- To have no friends
- To lose a beloved one or being neglected
- To live through wars and conflicts
- To have a boring life
- To lose your physical strength
What is at the bottom of each fear?
It is being with pain, loss, rejection, loneliness, shame, regret and risk of not being attractive or successful.
“What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?” Psalm 34:12
Psalm 34:9 says, “O fear the Lord , ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.” It is just not enough to fear but to also look to him and trust him. “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” Psalm 34:5
