The Lord fulfil all thy petitions.

“We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.” Psalm 20:5

Jehovah Nissi, the Lord my Banner is another name of our God. If the Lord be your Banner all these defences expressed by David are yours; that He’s your strength – “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord , who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” Psalm 18:2-3

If we are to fight the good fight of faith, and be faithful soldiers /servants of the Lord Jesus, we indeed need the name of the Lord, as a weapon, to defend us. “The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee,” (Psalm 20:1). He is the “Captain of our salvation” (Hebrews 2:10). And under His Banner we shall be victorious, for we have no strength that of our own apart from his. “By Thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall” (Psalm 18:29). You’re such as should trust in the name of the Lord to overcome; “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7

There are so many names (more than 200 of them) assigned to God; Father, Son and Holy Ghost in the Bible, this we shall see later but now, “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth…Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” Acts 4:10-12.

Psalm 20:5 says, “We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.”

But concerning God’s names thou shouldn’t be ignorant

That each of God’s names reveals a defining quality about the Lord’s nature and character toward his people. God revealed these names to his people only as they needed them – in the moment of testing or their deepest crisis. This is how you should also learn your Lord’s nature  – to know about his deep care and provision, and his heart towards you, his child, in your desperate times, during your times of crisis, when you’re in the midst of pain, suffering and need, etc.

In getting to know the father from the days of Adam right to Christ, the Lord gave his people an ever increasing revelation of his character. He revealed these aspects of his nature to his people by actually doing for them what he proclaimed himself to be.

However, God has only one name, I AM, (ref. Ex 3:14). That’s his nature and He wants his people to remember it, that I AM whatever you need, at any moment in your life. But several other names are used to describe his character or nature – El Elyon, El Shaddai, El Olam, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Rophi, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Tsidkenu, Jehovah Makkeh, etc., they’re expressions of who our Lord is and what he’s like.

The Lord fulfil all thy petitions!

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Luke 11:9-10

Praying is another way of setting up your defences, and “The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee.” Psalm 20:1, and verse 6 says, “Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.” Know this, the Lord hears his elect, at the time appointed He will send you help from his sanctuary and give you much strength.

Here is what will make defences or foundations even much stronger – the fruit of the spirit; godliness, humility, giving, etc. (ref vs 3-4).
