“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3
A foundation is a load bearing part of the building. If this is destroyed your building will not stand. I don’t know yourself what you’re trying to build and how but God is building in you and us all his dwelling place; “And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:20-22
Jude 1:20 – 21 also says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
Whatever you are trying to build, only make sure your foundations are such as would stand the test of times. That it’s solid rock – a chief corner stone, not that which can easily be destroyed.
Jude above has shown you the type of foundation you need; 1 Corinthians 3:11 says, “And no one can ever lay any other real foundation than that one we already have-Jesus Christ.”
When Paul said, “you are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,” note he’s not left out the Lord – he also said, “Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.” Take note the more, the foundation has already been laid, not by these our modern day apostles and prophets; “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:13). No one can ever lay any other real foundation than that we already have – the disciples or apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, and Christ himself, and Paul testified of them saying,
“For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ…” 1 Thessalonians 2:3-6
So there are foundations such as would be destroyed yet some wouldn’t. You need such as will not be destroyed; “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.” You need that sincere milk of the word of God; “building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keeping yourselves in the love of God, and looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
“For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.” (Psalm 11:7). And again “The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.” Psalm 11:5
This shall be your portion if you’re such as would stop trusting in the LORD and and be as such as would flee to the mountains; “Upon the wicked he [God] shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.” Psalm 11:6
