Grace has made us who we are – children of God! We have no reason to be proud; all we have, or we are, or we do, that is good, is owing to the free and rich grace of God. We all come out of the same source – God! Christians are strikingly alike, there is no important difference between us? What really makes one believer different from another, are they gifts? Nothing!
1 Corinthians 4:7 says,
“For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it , why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?”
Matthew 20 tells us a parable about workers. It says,
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ “So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”
In the kingdom of God each one of us is a labourer. We all have been hired in, through Christ, to go into the vineyard, and whatever is right for us we will receive.
So we are all equals, rather labourers! Our wages also is the same – one denarius! Whether you’re; an apostle, pastor or mere ordinary believer, we’re but one flesh anyway, “…the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.” Revelation 21:16
Let’s stop this talk business, thinking about who is better; you’re not better than I and I am not better than you, either.
“…God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.” 1 Corinthians 12:24-25
Isn’t that great, that the body has been tempered together? That you and me, its members, can have the same care one for another – with no divisions in the body!
Paul says, “Sometimes I think God has put us apostles at the very end of the line, like prisoners soon to be killed, put on display at the end of a victor’s parade, to be stared at by men and angels alike.” 1 Corinthians 4:9
Whatever is the case, “…ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-28.
In the kingdom of God, “…neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:7-9
