There be some that trouble you!

Fellow Christians, we need to know that in our calling, we were “called into the grace of Christ,” and to walk in it – nothing more, nothing less. It’s simply because we believed the gospel that we were converted, from e.g. paganism.

Now Paul says;

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-7

Don’t you also wonder how some believers are so easily led astray from faith-centered teachings, by individuals proposing “another gospel,” different gospel from you first received? But whatever they offer, it is of less value to what the Bible promises.
Two things you should beware;

  1. another gospel and
  2. men, i.e. those “…that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.”

The problem however is not solely with those preaching another gospel, but us also who receive it and willing to turn away from the sound teaching of Christ. That’s where the problem is, us who’re a receptive audience of the same men perverting the gospel of Christ.

“…but there be some that trouble you…”

  • with the so-called legalism
  • saying salvation is through another gospel, e.g. the Mosaic law or the Jewish Law.

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?” Galatians 3:1

Galatians 1:8-10 says,

[8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. [9] As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. [10] For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

I like what Paul says, “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it , but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Galatians 1:11-12

We need to see that meaning again, of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. He died for our sins just as God our Father planned, to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. It is by him that we saw the light.

“For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: [14] And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.” Galatians 1:13-14

Christ Jesus alone, freed us from the vicious circle of sin and death. “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:3 – 4

Trouble makers

These trouble makers were no strangers to the Christian faith and lifestyle. Some were preachers themselves who just wanted to be different. There were themselves born again, spirit filled and speaking in other tongues but somehow were not satisfied by what Paul was preaching.

There is no other way

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. And Paul is saying to the Galatians there is no other way than the one we showed you.

Peter says in Acts 4:11-12, “This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
