Marriage is honourable in all

Psalm 45 is a wedding song, rather a poem for the just married.

You should know what you’re committing yourself to if you marry.

The first part is directed to the man, praising him for doing a good thing, however he must give his whole heart to it. Psalm 45:4 says, “And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.” The second part is advice for the bride.

For the man it is said,

“Your throne is God’s throne, ever and always; The scepter of your royal rule measures right living. You love the right and hate the wrong. And that is why God, your very own God, poured fragrant oil on your head, Marking you out as king from among your dear companions.” Psalm 45:6-7

That’s the position of all men. First, know that you’ve your very own God; He marks you out as king so that His throne should endure forever in your own house. The scepter of your royal rule (as king) measures right living – you should love the right and hate the wrong. God says of Abraham, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord , to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (Genesis 18:19). Make sure you always ride on the side of truth!

Also ride for the righteous meek!

You’re a standard bearer; see how you’re observed in your own home.

Your spouse and your children see you as if “you are the fairest of all; Your words are filled with grace; God himself is blessing you forever” (Psalm 45:2). That’s how they measure you; handsome of all men, and your words, graceful. You bear for them a typical representation of the divine nature of God. They do not respect you for nothing.

But what’s the situation now? Are you not in comparison as nothing? Yes, most probably you’re!

That’s why the scripture says, accept due honour! Psalm 45:3-4 says, “Arm yourself, O mighty one, So glorious, so majestic! And in your majesty Go on to victory, Defending truth, humility, and justice. Go forth to awe-inspiring deeds!” Take it up upon yourself – “With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Ephesians 6:7).

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.” Ephesians 5:25-28

The second part I said is advice for the bride;

“Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house; So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.” Psalm 45:10-11

I see this blessing in most women – they’re able to forget! They’re able even to forget their own people. It’s not a weakness, but it is a strength. The scripture says, “forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house; So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.”

Paul says, “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body” (Ephesians 5:21-23).

Where we read it says, “Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.” (Psalm 45:16). That’s the reason they forget, so they can raise their young, to become princes as well on earth.

When you’ve such a mindset the king, your lord, and your husband is then able to say, I will love you forever. “I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.” Psalm 45:17

God bless,
Laurence
