Passover is a major Jewish festival commemorating the liberation of the children of Israel from the abject slavery and domination of Pharaoh, a sign to all of us that God will take us out of our own miseries no matter the situation.
Passover makes us understand something about Easter, that it’s deliverance in style making also a triumphant statement that – “…according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord God!” Ez 25:14
Moses visited Pharaoh time after time, in order to coax him into releasing the children of Israel but Pharaoh never relented from his stance. Instead he made their situation worse. History does seem to repeat itself, you see how these Pharaohs of our days have stubborn hearts.
Solomon in his wisdom says,
“All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt. And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” Ecclesiastes 8:9-11
Moses warned Pharaoh about the horrible plagues that God would bring upon Egypt, if he does not release them. But Pharaoh instead of taking heed he thought to do them evil to his own peril.
Help is on the way
People keep asking me questions concerning Zimbabwe – what’s the solution? Don’t worry, help is on it’s way!
God eventually intervened and told Moses that the Israelites should blot their doorposts with lamb’s blood, so that they could be secured from the final plague, when God ‘passes over’ their houses but killing Egyptian firstborns. Aghast by this, the king and his people were now themselves urgent that the Israelites should start immediately to go, and readily bestowed on them supplies for the journey. In such haste did the Israelites depart, Pharaoh finally giving in and letting the Israelites go.
God is a great punishment, with him sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, but he makes sure you pay. He says in Isaiah 63:4, “For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.”
And Paul says in Romans 12:19-21,
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
