“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Ephesians 5:8-11
Because you are now light in the Lord;
- walk as children of light.
- prove what is acceptable to the Lord
- reprove unfruitful works of darkness
As we follow God’s way, walking in His word, living by His truths as stated, we enter into His promises of abundant life.
So the key to inheriting promises is following God’s way; walking in his word and living by his truth.
Apostle Peter says,
“For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them , and be established in the present truth.” 2 Peter 1:8-12
Earlier he had said, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:2-4
Your knowledge of God, and of Jesus is key to dealing with God, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The Holy Spirit is an exceeding great and precious promise: for only by him you are made to partake of the divine nature of God here on earth. For if you’ve the Holy Ghost in you, and in charge, he will make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if he’s not in you you’re blind, and cannot see afar off.
Paul says, “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing” (Philippians 3:15-16). With this scripture I want you to see something; some rules have to be followed, rather, “let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.“
The Holy Ghost plays a pivotal role
“God shall reveal even this unto you,” and at this day and age, only by his Spirit, which should abide and dwell in you. Jesus said, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:12-13
Continue without the Spirit of truth, and be blind all your life. Even the little truth you’ve shall be taken away from you. You need the Spirit of truth to give you guidance, revelation, understanding and knowledge. For only by him you’re made to partake of the divine nature of God.
Sometimes we ask ourselves, why Lord this unfruitfulness? The answer is simple, “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” 1 Timothy 4:14-16
Neglect not the Holy Ghost, rather, “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts , but rather that ye may prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:1). Desire fruit, to also abound in your account. It’s never the will of God that you be unfruitful.
Be endued with power from on high
Every believer should be fully empowered to live the Christian life, so it’s important for you to know the Holy Spirit and understand how he works.
First is the promise;
“And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:48-49
Every believer is a witness, and Jesus here promises his followers, including you that, “ye be endued with power from on high.” He said, “behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you.”
Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…”
Please note: When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power to be His witnesses.
Did they not have the word? Of course they had, but they had to wait to “endued with power from on high.” Knowing the word is just not good enough, the Holy Ghost has to first come upon you: for you to be effective witnesses. After he’s come, “…ye shall be witnesses unto me…”
Now, do you’ve to wait, “until ye be endued with power from on high“? No, this is the age of the Holy Spirit, he has already come, and is at work but he also must be in you. You need power don’t you? Paul says, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly…” (1 Timothy 4:1), ”And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17). What that simply mean is, ask and receive!
If you ask, “…how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” Matthew 7:7
Don’t wait to be prayed for, or be laid hands on – ask your heavenly Father, and He will give you the Holy Spirit.
