The reason why there is church!

“And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:31-32

Church is a place where people who need care comes to. It is a surgery, not a financial institution, so activities around church must be to add quality of life to believers, to encourage them and promote fellowship.

Those who provide you with the service must do it with respect, compassion and dignity at all times. Every member is a unique believer and must be treated that way. Those who minister should treat everyone the same, understand their needs and be gentle with each one of them.

The goal of shepherding is to maximise your sheep’s comfort, not milking of shearing them. “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.” Isaiah 40:1-2

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, i.e., consider their spiritual wellbeing, emotionally, physically and socially, and individually.

Jesus said, “As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again” (John 10:15-17). Those who minister in his church should also maintain that same spirit of compassion, respect, dignity, and individuality at all times. Everyone matters.

There is comfort in his fold. It is a safe environment, and very comfortable one. Church services should be designed to make the believer comfortable, and safe. Our praise and worship songs, and our singers should make you smile. Ensure that you smile, and are warm and friendly towards God’s people. Your approach should always be to serve not to fleece.

Believers don’t come to church to argue. Church is not a battle ground, where people challenge, confront, command, direct, correct and wrestle with each other every time. In church we pray, sing, eat and drink with each other. We are pleasant, calm and we engage with the every believer in a personally meaningful fashion – avoiding upsetting and distressing situations.

God bless,
