All seemed well with Jesus except from the moment he settled on going to Jerusalem, there was great confusion among his disciples.
Days before the tempo was good, and Lazarus has just been raised from the dead. But the tour of the various temple buildings changed everyone’s mood and I think that’s where Satan entered Judas Iscariot.
He first announced to them a bombshell;
“And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Matthew 24:2
Oops, he’s the Messiah how come he is not going to prevent this from happening?
“And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.” Matthew 26:1-2
– Will he die too?
“When Jesus understood it , he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.” Matthew 26:10-12
The disciples are now going through a phase of spiritual confusion.
Every believer have moments like that in their spiritual lives when there is confusion, and the way out of it is not simply to say that you should not be confused. It is not a matter of right and wrong, but maybe a matter of agreeing with God to take you through a storm or way that you temporarily do not understand. Did the disciples understand? Never, not until he had risen from the dead.
Did he not die? He that does not die, died a brutal death, and was buried. That’s what it means he came in the flesh – he was also supposed to die. “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.” 1 John 4:2
It is only by going through spiritual confusion that you sometimes come to understand what God wants you to do.
Jesus said to Simon, son of Jonas, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.” John 21:18
When you find yourself confused, “…thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.”
