Will Religion ever disappear?
First, it’s true there are certain religions that doesn’t work, and true that some gods were and some are still an imaginary being. Have you ever noticed that some of the so-called religions and gods are dead now, period, end of story, full stop? For example: the gods of the Greeks and the Romans, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Mithra, Apollo etc, where are there? Dead gods! These “dead gods” were once popular, but no one worships them anymore. You would be amazed at how important these gods were to the people and how their entire life was centred around them. There are so many religions in the world today and nearly every culture has their own religion; Israel, Judaism; the West, Christianity; Middle East, Islam; China, Buddhism, etc. There are signs some would also be dead soon.
I believe that some religions and certain of their “gods” are imaginary and soon I’ll tell you why. Not all religions are ONE, they have competing philosophies and beliefs, and practices, view of morals etc. Plurality of religions makes sense if religions are created by men and anthropology has always tried to help them find common ground. The reason I am on this rant is because I feel that religious dogmatism and indoctrination have really screwed up.
Do I believe in God? I do.
Peter writes in his epistle, 2 Peter 3:8-18 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
Will the Christian Faith die also? No way.
However chances are many believers will fall from their steadfast by being “…led away with the error of the wicked…”
Concerning that he says, “…grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
He then cautions us against Paul’s epistles, “…Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction…”
Now this brings me to my second point, the church is failing because of too many promises made from the pulpit and some of which aren’t true, “…which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction…”
The error of the wicked has no respect of persons
Anyone can indulge in error, it doesn’t matter it’s Paul, you or me. Peter had his own experiences also. He meant well, and so do everyone that promises you prosperity, material wealth, happiness, etc. But have we ever thought of the consequences of delivering false doctrine?
Paul said, “For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?” (Romans 3:7). It sounds good but there are consequences on a long run, it back fires “…unto their own destruction.” Jesus said, “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” Luke 6:26
– be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation.
I know people who can say without equivocation, they don’t believe in a god, and some also believe that religion sucks the life out of you and can make your life devoid of meaning.
What happened that religion doesn’t seem anymore to make sense to others, especially to those who used to believe but now think it’s a waste of time? It could be the church failed them, and so they crushed their faiths. Some promises made from pulpits in the name of the Lord are sometimes out of touch.
Peter says, “…beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing…the Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness…”
Why not offer people only that promised? The other religions that failed was that of the Pharisees and Sadducees, too much yeast it had.
– Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Thank you all for reading and I hope that you have a joyous wondrous life and I hope that my sharing perhaps provoked you to think about why we believe the things we do. I hope as well that perhaps you would consider your beliefs and how you see the world and perhaps see if the light of evidence shines on them or not.
