“And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.” Romans 9:26
“Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?” (Romans 9:24).
This chapter is filled with loaded language but what is being tackled about here is the social causes of cruelty and incapacity among us who believe.
It’s 21st century, a time when we think things have changed and have moved on but still people are referring to others as gentiles despite being also saved.
Doesn’t it alarm you to know some people are still subjected to degrading practices, and are often being treated as public spectacles to be ridiculed and terrorised? Doesn’t it surprise you to that from our pulpits old languages that classify other believers as busterards, poor, idiots, fools, insane, reprobates and you name it is still in use?
One thing for sure we’ve got to change the way we see other people, and also language has to change to go with our morden day society. In the New Testament, it is noticeable Christ gave us a new language of care – our language is different from the Old Testament one. “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). That’s our heavenly language!
This change is even in word usage, it’s not meant to gainsay but such as would make those even disadvantaged to hope in God. “For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.” Philemon 1:7
But what’s that we see these days? The church is deliberately resisting change, going after that meant to be destroyed.
Ezekiel 34:15-16 says, “I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord God. I will…bind up….and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.”
“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:12-14
Children of the living God are those we sometimes ridicule and call of sorts of names; “for he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” Isaiah 53:2-3
