“And it was in the spirit that he visited the spirits in prison and preached to them.” 1 Peter 3:19
A quick overview of prison life.
A prison life is all about mostly; frustration, despair, stress and loss of mental balance.
Upon arrival your fingerprints and photograph are taken and logged, and you are issued with a uniform and a number of a convicted criminal and you’re taken to a cell and then your induction begins. Being locked away in a cell, often one shared with someone you have never met before, is a stressful ordeal. Most of your personal possessions are listed and filed away until your day of release.
While in prison a number of things change.
As a convicted criminal you do not have certain rights whilst in prison. They tell you how to arrange visits during your time of incarceration.
Anyway, I wonder if you know this verse; “….behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison….” Revelation 2:10
Spiritually there are two prisons, and chose which prisoner you would have to be;
- of Jesus Christ or
- of the devil?
In Acts 26:9-10 Paul is giving his testimony to king Agrippa,
“I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.” Acts 26:9-10
If you’re a prisoner of the devil, the counsel is to kill you at a later date, “lest any of ‘you’ should swim out, and escape.” Acts 27:42
Chances of escaping from prison are slim especially if it’s chief priests and Saul testifying against you. I am not surprised to hear Jesus himself “went and preached unto the spirits in prison.” 1 Peter 3:19
Anyway, “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.” Luke 11:35
Sometimes you may think you’re in church yet you’re that spirit in prison. Some of you believers have to man-up, mature quickly! Don’t spend the rest of your life in bondage under tutors and governors; “because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” Galatians 4:6
What’s daunting is the reality of what happens while in prison, you do not have certain rights. Unless you swim out and escape they’ll kill you at a later stage. Remember the hypocrisy of Pharisees, Jesus said, “Yes, woe upon you hypocrites. For you go to all lengths to make one convert, and then turn him into twice the son of hell you are yourselves.” Matthew 23:15
John 8:36 says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
