Sound doctrine

Sound doctrine

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, [12] Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; [13] Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; [14] Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:11-14 KJV

A few things you got to realise from this chapter;

  1. God wants us to turn away from ungodliness and worldly lusts to God-fearing lives
  2. He wants us to look forward to his appearing
  3. He wants us to be zealous of God works

Sound doctrine

“These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” Titus 2:15

Teach Men

That the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience, Titus 2:2

  • sober – not affected by alcohol
  • reverent – respectful
  • temperate – self restrained, cool
  • sound in faith, in love, in patience – keep the faith

Teach Women

the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things- [4] that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, [5] to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” Titus 2:3-5

  • be reverent in behavior – respectful
  • not slanderers – malicious
  • not given to much wine – sober
  • teachers of good things – admonish younger women unto love
  • be discreet – careful and prudent
  • chaste – not having any sexual nature
  • homemakers– manage home
  • good – pleasing and welcoming
  • obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed

Teach young men

Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, [7] in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, [8] sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.” Titus 2:6-8

  • integrity – honest and principled
  • reverence – respectful
  • incorruptibility – no bribery

Teach Workers

Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, [10] not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.” Titus 2:9-10

  • not pilfering – do not steal

Servants of God

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.” Titus 2:1

  • Sound doctrine – teach us that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and that we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
