“For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” Psalm 18:28
God does not punish you when you turn to him, never! He is not in your life to condemn you. But he is a shield for everyone who hides behind him.
God turns on your light – he makes your darkness light.
David says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” Psalm 19:7-9
There is no way you can turn to God and your life will remain the same. If you become progressively worse then search your heart – ask God for enlightenment.
The things of God are there to inspire you, to encourage you, promote you, reveal to you, persuade you of a much better state or condition than when you first came to him.
Hebrews 6:9 says, “But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.”
We are persuaded better things of you, not things that increases you more to vanity and ungodliness. Beware of vanity especially from false teachers and prophets who prophesy lies to you which is not consistent with scripture year in year out.
But we are persuaded better things of you, because you take heed of what you hear, and from whom you hear it from. What that means is reflect whether it be so. Nowadays too many deceptive theories about how God works have filled hearts and minds. False prophets have risen, “These are spots in your feasts of charity…” (Jude 12). Beware!
Anyway, I’ve done this post so that God may light your candle, (understanding) and may he enlighten your darkness too.
“Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the Lord. Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord ; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:13-15
