“God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.” Psalm 53:2
He searched among all mankind to see if there is a single one who understands, who does right and really seeks for God. There was none. How can this be?
How about the shepherds; priests, prophets and pastors alike?
He said there is none that doeth good, “corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.”
“Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Psalm 53:3
This should make you sad, but afterwards, then understand. What’ve they done?
What abominable iniquity have they done? Verse 4 says, they “eat up my people as they eat bread…”
He looked down from heaven, to see if there is any doing what is right, and surprisingly he found none. He said they are altogether become filthy; and yourself too you’re not exempted.
But don’t we hear prophets profess their love for God? Yes we do, but God has rejected them. He’s altogether despised what we do to put us to shame. He can’t be happy when we exploit each other, when we eat each other like bread, and we refuse to come to him with all our hearts or through the way he provided.
David concluded saying, ”Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.” Psalm 53:6
Has salvation come out of Zion?
Yes it has, God gave mankind another opportunity to serve him, and that only through his Christ – he can restore us back again. “Only when the Lord himself restores them can they ever be really happy again.” Psalm 53:6
