The Israelites of whom the scripture says, “to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came…” (Romans 9:4-5). Paul said concerning them, “I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart” for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh because they fail to realise this fact that, “it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.” Romans 9:8
Real children of God, reckoned for a seed are children of the promise.
Let me quote for you again, “That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.” Romans 9:8
Romans 9:23-26 also says, “…and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory, even us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles? As he saith also in Hosea, I will call that my people, which was not my people; And her beloved, that was not beloved. And it shall be, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, There shall they be called sons of the living God.”
A few facts from the above, he said, even us are vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory. Even us, whom he called, from all corners of the world, God says you’re my people. Yea, we’re his sons.
“Even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.” Romans 9:33
Why do people stumble?
“Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling.” Romans 9:32
True, the Word came to everyone, even the covenants, and the services of God, and the promises, but only you / “he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.”
“Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” Hebrews 4:1-2
Is there unrighteousness with God?
No, Ecclesiastes 9:11 says, “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
Chance happeneth to us all; even as it happened to all of Abraham’s wives, to Jacob and Esau, to Moses and Pharaoh, to Jews as well as Gentiles, but by their own choice, our own choice; others became vessels unto honour, and another unto dishonour. James says, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” James 1:13-14.
