When you begin reading your Bible and understand it, or rather remember what you’re reading, you then begin to see it’s relevance.
James 1:25 says, “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” Remember also the parable of the sower; “And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it , and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred (Mark 4:20). It will profit you nothing if you’ve a habit of reading the Bible yet be a forgetful hearer.
With some people, it doesn’t matter how long and much they read the Bible – they still don’t understood it, and so they would rather hear sermon after sermon, from where comes much deceptions. Others just can’t remember what they’re reading. If you find you’re like, ask God to give you wisdom – out of his mouth proceeds knowledge and understanding!
“And he [Jesus] said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?” Mark 8:21
Solomon prayed; “Give me now wisdom and knowledge...” (2 Chronicles 1:10). And James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Daniel says, “He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” He says, “I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.” (Daniel 2:22-23).
I like David for he said,
“Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” Psalm 63:4-8
Of course seeking God the right way works; for to know God is to know righteousness.
I know it’s not easy trying to read and understand your Bible first time you read it, especially when you’re a new Christian. It wasn’t also easy for me, but I started reading a few verses at a time and I really tried to understand what it meant. If I had questions, I would ask my friends and my pastor too. Over time, my understanding of the Bible changed over for the better and so was my faith, it grew – grateful to the seven spirits of God, with every read God will give you the grace. You can learn a lot from others too, but you only need to choose your friends wisely, too. Your closest friends will help you build up your faith, they also should be zealous about God.
Is Church still relevant?
Yes it is, “…for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (2 Corinthians 6:16). But “Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.” Philippians 3:2
Remember also how Jesus said, “Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father….But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21-24).
No matter what, don’t remove the candlestick from off your life.
