Have I become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

I can’t believe it!

In Galatians 4, Paul is not over yet with those that would pervert the gospel of Christ. How these false teachers go to great lengths to flatter you, “They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.” Galatians 4:17. Their motives are corrupt –  and is that they also may rob you and deceive you.

He also addresses one other problem; i.e. that of Abraham; “…it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing…” Galatians 4:18. But there is a lot of heresy concerning Abraham in church these days, and that started long back.

Don’t you hear sometimes people say they’re the children of Abraham so they’re blessed with faithful Abraham? I don’t know how true that is, however which son of Abraham are you?

It is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman; which one are you?

Romans 9:7-8 says, “Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. [8] That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”

The story of his two sons are an illustration, of God’s two ways of helping people.

1. Abraham’s slave-wife Hagar represents Jerusalem.

Through this way He gave them his laws to obey, and the center of that system was they would please God by trying to obey the Commandments.

2. Abraham’s free-wife Sarah was by promise, representing the Heavenly Jerusalem.

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.” Galatians 4:28

  • we who are born of the Holy Spirit are persecuted now by those who want us to keep the Jewish laws, just as Isaac, the child of promise, was persecuted by Ishmael, the slave-wife’s son.

Nevertheless what saith the scripture?

Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.” Galatians 4:30-31

So who are we?
Galatians 4:7-9 says

“Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. [8] Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. [9] But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?”

Now we are no longer slaves but God’s own sons.

since we are his sons, everything he has belongs to us, for that is the way God planned.

Known of God

you have found God – God has found you

“But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?” Galatians 4:9

Grow up!

When Christ came, he came, “to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father! Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Galatians 4:5-7

  • You are no longer a slave but a son,
  • You are no longer under guardians and stewards because the fulness of the time has finally come.

Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7.
