“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” 1 Peter 2:1-3 KJV
If so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious; don’t just pretend to be good! Instead get rid of all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings.
Desire the sincere milk of the word, i.e., sound doctrine “which is disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious.” 1 Peter 2:4. Enjoy sound doctrine!
Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul
Malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies, evil speakings and disobedience will only make you be accepted by men but not by God. 1 Peter 2:11-12 says, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
“For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.” 1 Peter 2:15-16
The servants of God
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
Servants of God are freeborn however they should never use their liberty as a cloke of maliciousness. Yes we are free from the law, but that doesn’t mean we are free to do wrong. We live as those free only to do God’s will at all times, and this is the will of God;
- Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king, 1 Peter 2:17
- Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, 1 Peter 2:13
- Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps, 1 Peter 2:21
” Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
