“And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:11-12
My first tip for you today is, you should not be bored with being a Christian. Second tip, follow the example of those who receive ALL that God has promised.
I say so because some believers feel they’ve been betrayed by their leaders or fellow Christians. When this occurred, they did jump to the conclusion that ‘true Christians just don’t exist’ or that ‘no one can actually be trusted’? Generalisations involve stating universal truths or sorting out other Christians into various categories of the good, the bad, sinners, etc.
Based on one instance in the past or present, you make the assumption that in the future all others will follow a similar pattern. For example: Just because one pastor betrayed you, you believe that’s what all servants of God are like.
Generalisations are also the mechanisms by which we generate beliefs, and they can be useful or dangerous for this very reason. They also produce ‘phobias’. For example, if you were once cheated by a man of God then it’s possible you’ve elaborated the ‘belief’ that all men of God are great cheats. But that isn’t the fact! There are some fine servants of God out there you also can follow. The scripture said, “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.“
You don’t just follow everyone though, not every evil doer or evil worker – those beware! Don’t be afraid to write wrong where possible! But follow the example of those who embrace all that God has promised.
However, to make it short, here is our desire, “…we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end…”
