First impression

First impression

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” John 1:47

Those doing or have done psychology knows that first impression is when one person first encounters another person and then form a mental image of that person.

First impressions are based on a wide range of characteristics, say; age, race, culture, language, gender, physical appearance, accent, posture, voice, number of people present, and time.

The first impressions individuals give to others could greatly influence how they are treated and viewed in many contexts of everyday life. But beware broad is the way that leads to destruction.

“For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool. Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?” James 2:2-4

It takes just a split second for us to judge someone and make a first impression. Not only are people quick to form first impressions, but sometimes they are also fairly accurate when the target presents him or herself as genuine. Eve was deceived because of that. People are generally not good at perceiving feigned emotions or detecting lies. That’s the reason believers ain’t able to detect false prophets or antichrist when they do appear, we need supernatural help – the bible is the only thing able to guide us through, not a spirit of a prophet. Study to show yourself approved…

It’s however a strength, for you to be able to form or discern accurate impressions of specific targets more accurately, judging them by the word of God. The rate at which different qualities are detected in first imp is important for survival.

For example, trustworthiness and attractiveness are the two traits most quickly detected and evaluated on human faces. People are fairly good at assessing personality traits of others in general, but there appears to be a difference in first impression judgments on spritual matters, between christians, older and younger adults…..

Anyway 2 Peter 2:1-3 says,

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. [2] And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. [3] And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

How did Apostle Peter know? He employed a split second judgement to make a first impression; “they bring in damnable heresies…through covetousness they with feigned words make merchandise of…by reason of whom the way of truth is be evil spoken of…many shall follow their pernicious ways.” Now it’s time you make your own…
