“Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.” Jude 1:8-10
Filthy dreamers are false prophets who think God will not punish them for relying on their dreams wherewith they defile their flesh, despise authority, mock/speak evil of dignitaries and deceptive preaching.
Earlier we discussed in much detail the other points above, but today we’ll focus on
“…They reject authority…”
On the same subject Apostle Peter says, “So also the Lord can rescue you and me from the temptations that surround us, and continue to punish the ungodly until the day of final judgment comes. He is especially hard on those who follow their own evil, lustful thoughts, and those who are proud and willful, daring even to scoff at the Glorious Ones without so much as trembling, although the angels in heaven who stand in the very presence of the Lord, and are far greater in power and strength than these false teachers, never speak out disrespectfully against these evil Mighty Ones. But false teachers are fools – no better than animals. They do whatever they feel like…” 2 Peter 2:9-12
May the Lord rescue today from these temptations that surround us; of these false teachers, who are proud and willful, daring even to scoff at the Glorious Ones without fear. They reject authority, rebel against God and against governmental institutions. There are false prophets committed to overthrowing governments.
They speak evil of angelic dignitaries.
It means nothing to them that “there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Rom. 13:1b). They scorn the divine command, “You shall not…curse a ruler of your people” (Ex. 22:28). They speak scornfully and spitefully against authority, whether it be dedicated to God, angelic or human authority. “These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.” Jude 1:19.
They speak evil of angelic dignitaries in-spite of the fact that angels themselves far greater in power and strength than these false teachers, never speak out disrespectfully against these evil Mighty Ones.
Jude 9 says, “Yet Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, when he was arguing with Satan about Moses’ body, did not dare to accuse even Satan, or jeer at him…”.
Michael is an archangel, the one whom God will use to cast Satan down from heaven (Rev. 12:7-9), but he did not presume to speak reproachfully to the one who rules in the realm of demons. He left all such rebuking to God. But today who do we see doing it? We see our own men of the cloth taking liberty to which even Michael the archangel would reject? The supposedly servants of God; “these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.” Jude 1:10
Exodus 22:28 says, “You shall not blaspheme God, nor curse government officials – your judges and your rulers.”
Paul says, “Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren, 1 Timothy 5:1. And again he says,
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4
“But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.” Romans 2:2
It is shameful when a believer, a preacher has to be justly rebuked by a man of the world!
