A coward is someone who is easily frightened and avoids dangerous or difficult situations. Another definition says, it is a person who lacks courage, esp. one who is shamefully unable to control fear and so shrinks from danger or trouble.
John saw a new earth in Revelation 21, and a city coming down from God out of heaven. It was a glorious sight, believe you me, so beautiful as a bride at her wedding. God himself was now living among men, wiping away all tears from their eyes, saying “I am making all things new!”
But he said this to John, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true;
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
Heaven has no place for cowards, just as it also doesn’t have a place for the unbelieving. It is sometimes believed suicide is a coward’s way out, and because Judas Iscariot was so afraid he decided to take that coward’s way out.
Sometimes danger, uncertainty, jeopardy, riskiness, hazard, insecurity, threat, perilousness, or persecution is a situation that is inevitable. Don’t I hear Christ say in Luke 24:25-26 “O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?” Only cowards think christianity is a life free of injury, loss, danger, destruction grave risk or jeopardy. Sometimes you got to face the peril of falling rocks. When you received Christ your whole life is on the frontline of these things.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14
Don’t be afraid to expose yourself to danger! Doesn’t the scripture say we’ve not received the spirit of fear, again to fear?
Matthew 5:10-12 says,
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. “When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers -wonderful! Be happy about it! Be very glad! for a tremendous reward awaits you up in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted too.”
The Lord said to Gideon, “…Send home any of your men who are timid and frightened.”
What I tell you is trustworthy and true, there’ll be a sending away of cowards, it better not be yourself. “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.” Luke 9:26
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8
Whosoever is fearful and afraid isn’t “pure in heart.” If you want to be pure, don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.
If you lose your flavour, no way you can say you’re “pure in heart.”
I like reading this;
“Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:15-19
