Once you’re enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, go on unto perfection; never settle for less as if you have already attained righteousness. That should be every believer’s mindset, to mature in your understanding and become a strong Christian you need to become, i.e., taste that real good word of God; the one that’s unadulterated, able to enlighten your darkness.
You cannot afford a motionless faith, you need to carry on moving, never settle for mediocrity. Your faith should take you to new dimensions.
“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…” Hebrews 6:1
This we will do, “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” Philippians 3:14-15
For that to happen, you got to first get enlightened and mature in your understanding.
One problem we’ve as christians is sometimes we’re typical performers, even some of our preachers I’m afraid to say they are great theatricals. Not only do they pretend but are overdramatic and do exaggerate things sometimes, and such manner of pretence will take us nowhere. In Philippians 3:13 Paul says, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.”
“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” 1 John 4:2-3
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God, he agrees that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, actually became man with a human body. You also should agree, and more also, should also be human.
The spirit of antichrist is that which would make us exalt ourselves above measure. Some believers do already have that spirit of antichrist operating in them because they’re ‘the most holier than thou’ creatures on earth.
But understand the basics, we’re not angels. We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. Who looks down upon the flesh? Filthy dreamers do, for “…filthy dreamers defile [despise] the flesh…” (ref. Jude 1:8).
If you regard yourself to be ‘an angel’ then that excellency of the power of God will not show through your life. John says in the scripture below, “…Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward…”
“For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.” 2 John 1:7-9
If Christ Jesus is come in the flesh where does it leave us? Paul says, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7
Learn also to love your own bodies
Only fools dishonour their own bodies, and doing it between themselves also; “who changed the truth of God into a lie…” Romans 1:25
Yes our bodies are earthen vessels, and mortal but remember, “the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.” 1 Corinthians 15:40. But Christ loves them so!
Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ?
“…the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”
“And this will we do, if God permit.” (Hebrews 6:3).
We shall go on, despite we’re earthen vessels, despite what our bodies tells us, despite what the world around us is saying, despite the fear or doubt, we will move on that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” We pray, fast, read the word because we are still earthen vessels. Whilst in this tabernacle, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do , forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.” Philippians 3:13-15.
Let me today leave you with this scripture reading, Ephesians 4:8-24 KJV
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
