All our fathers were under the cloud

Looking at our history, not necessarily that of the children of Israel but in Zimbabwe, there is no doubt all our preachers were led by God. I’m talking of Ezekiel Guti, Sengwayo, Andrew Wutawunashe and of course many others like those in AFM. By the way if I’m not wrong, among Pentecostals AFM has been in Zimbabwe much longer than the others.

The names above are great names in Zimbabwe, prestigious ones befitting them to become our fathers of faith. They’re such a great cloud of witnesses, and no doubt God guided them through under a miraculous cloud. These leaders along with many believers with them helped bring such a tremendous revival in Southern Africa.

I gave Zimbabwe here as an example so that you could understand for yourself 1 Corinthians 10.

It is a fact that:-

  • all our fathers were under the cloud, (vs1)
  • all passed through the sea, (vs1)
  • all were baptised…in the cloud and in the sea, (vs2)
  • all did eat the same spiritual meat, (vs3)
  • all did drink the same spiritual drink,
  • they all drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ, (vs4)

Now let me show you something which also is true;

The bible says,

“But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.” 1 Corinthians 10:5

Why was God not pleased with many of them? It was because they were trying to get Christ to serve them instead of serving him. Similarly in the wilderness, many forgot the same golden rule and were overthrown. God was not pleased and still He is not very pleased with some of those I said are our fathers, why? Because they think of only themselves! Idolatry, fornication, you name it, are the unfruitful works of darkness done by selfish people thinking only of themselves!
1 Corinthians 10:24,33 says;

“Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth. Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”

When you’re called to be part of this work, never try to get Christ to serve you instead of you serving him; they tried it, and they perished in the wilderness. Imagine how the Holy Ghost is grieved by our waywardness? We must be careful not to get into preaching for money or only for the sole purpose of looking after ourselves – we’re not preaching to serve ourselves, it’s not about our own profit but Christ’s.

1 Corinthians 10:6 says, “Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.” Learn from the fig tree, for many of those who tried it were defeated in the wilderness.

Bible verse of the day

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
