A refuge in times of trouble

Understanding Spiritual Warfare – Psalm 9

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord , hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” Psalm 9:9-10

David says in verse 13, “O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me…”

Hate is a feeling of intense dislike for someone, and the synonyms of hate is intolerable, loathe, dislike greatly, abhor, despise, abominate or is to feel aversion or revulsion towards someone.

There are people who even if unprovoked they feel hostile towards others; they can’t just stomach the mention of you name, and are disgusted by everything you do. You ask them why? Their answer is I can’t just bear/stand him. Such dislike is brewed in hell. However, you’ll find sometimes people capable of doing that are not far away, they’re those you already know, those already in your life, people you eat, drink and work with, or the relatives you grow up with. Isn’t it that Jesus was betrayed by a close friend? Remember Jesus said, “Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.” Luke 4:24

Anyway, David said, see how I suffer at the hands of those who hate me;

David had experienced so much of this hatred, and I suppose you do too.

  • how that a number of spells live with you, and
  • how some black stars are following you, and
  • how they have used different traditional medicines to put obstacles in your life, and
  • how you experience nightmares night after night, and
  • how you always have to make wrong decisions, and the list goes on.

To make matters worse you know who’s causing you those things i.e. people so close to you, and some are really open about it, and that terrifies more.

But don’t be afraid, this day the lord is lifting you up from the gates of death, and will cause your enemies to sink down ” in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.” (vs 15).

One thing you should know, God does not ignore the prayers you make while you’re in trouble, especially when you call to him for help.

  • He will rescue you. Stay with me, you will soon know greater is he that is in you than any type of black magic or witchcraft.

David said, “I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.” Psalm 9:1-3

So what are you waiting for?

Praise Him, with my whole heart! Be glad and rejoice in him and also sing praise to His name. Say, “Have mercy upon me, O Lord ; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:

“Arise, O Lord ; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight. Put them in fear, O Lord : that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.” Psalm 9:19-20

  • The wicked shall be turned into hell, vs 17.

I like Isaiah 59:19

“So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”
