“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1
There are many false prophets and false teachers gone out into the world to spread around the spirit of antichrist, which is the spirit of error.
1 John 4:5 says, “They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.”
What do people like to hear? Paul says to Timothy, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4
This is one way you know false prophets; the world listens to them, and another way you know them is they also love the world.
1 John 2:15-16 says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
“Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.” 1 John 3:13
Another way you know false prophets is they “doeth not righteousness…”
1 John 3:10 says, “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”
This also is true of false prophets, they’ve this world’s good;
“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” 1 John 3:17
“These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.” 1 John 2:26
